Traditional Hot Process Soapmaking on an Open Fire
Historical Soapmaking Demonstrations
The SHG meets on the 4th Saturday of each month in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park for a soapmaking demonstration interpreting the techniques of soapmaking in the 1800's. Our soap begins with the rendering of tallow, and using the hot process method we make our soap over an open fire in a cast iron kettle. Typical of Old Town's Living History Days, we portray the time period in fashion and utility.
The demonstration begins at 11:00 at the Blacksmith Shoppe!
