Natural Handmade Soap Making Beginners Class, Adult Explore the art of making cold process soap from scratch. Using the right natural ingredients is key to creating a glycerin rich soap that will sooth, moisturize and cleanse your skin. In this class you will observe the soap making process, learn the techniques and history of real handmade soap, and discover what rebatch soap is.You will make several soap balls using a variety of botanicals and essential oils. This class will guide you in choosing the oils and botanicals you need and give you the confidence to start making your own soap. Leave class with your handmade rebatch soaps,a soap recipe, and several samples of cold process soap. Come join the fun in making a lather that wont burst your bubble! Natural Handmade Soap Making Intermediate Class, Adult Now that you know the basics of cold process soap making, join master soapmaker, Cindy Christ in the next level of this ancient art. Learn how to add botanical ingredients and exotic butters to your cold process soap. Discuss the purpose of super fatting your recipe and discover a variety of nature’s ingredients to add to your basic soap recipe for skin loving benefits. Have more fun with rebatch soap and take home your creations, a new recipe, and several samples of what was shared in class. Plant Science Scout Merit Badge
This Plant Science class is extremely popular. If your scout missed this fun and fact filled class be sure to check the SDNHM spring brochure. This class will be repeated each spring when the plants are blooming at their best. Boy Scout: Plant Science Scouts Program: Plants play a vital role in daily subsistence, from fresh air to food and medicines. Explore the local plant life in Balboa Park while practicing field botany techniques. Then visit the Museum's herbarium to discover the significance of botanical research collections. (Requirements 4, 6, and Option 3 D will be started but not completed.) Basketry
Scout Merit Badge
Learn the basics of basketry techniques. Review safety procedures while working with tools of the trade. View and identify a variety of finished basket weaves, and create two small baskets using these techniques. Price includes all supplies needed to make both baskets. Merit badge requirements 1, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, are met, bring in completed campstool to meet requirement 3c. Bring your bluecard for counselor signature.
Minimum of 10 scouts required for all programs. Price includes same-day admission to the general exhibitions and giant-screen films. Bring a sack lunch and drink.
